Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam. An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be shared with the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. You can read the Gravatar service’s privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture becomes visible to the public next to your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site can extract location data from images that include it.
Contact forms
If you submit information via our contact form, we retain that submission for one year to respond to your inquiry. We do not use contact form data for marketing purposes.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies. These exist for your convenience, so you don’t have to re-enter details when posting another comment. These cookies last one year.
If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we set several cookies to save your login and screen preferences. Login cookies last two days; screen option cookies last one year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out, login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply records the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves the same as if you visited that other site directly. These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with their content, including tracking if you are logged in to their site.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how users interact with our website. Google collects data such as pages visited, time spent, and browser/device type. This data may be shared with other Google services. You can prevent your data from being used by Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. More information is available at Google’s Privacy & Terms page: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Who we share your data with
We do not share your personal data with anyone, except where necessary for spam detection or password reset requests. For example, if you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are kept indefinitely so we can recognize and approve future comments automatically. If users register on our website (if available), we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided.
You can also request that we delete any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data we are required to retain for administrative, legal, or security reasons.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
